Remix Competition

Finally it’s time to present the winner of our Myspace Remix Competition! It was a tough decision, we had so many grat remixes sent to us. Thanks everybody for taking time and sharing your creativity with us. It’s been so much fun!

Short interview with Antoine from Montag:

“Tell us a little bit about yourself and Montag.”

I’m from Montréal, French is my first language and I make music under the name of Montag. I’ve released two albums on Carpark Records and hope to release a third one next year. The name Montag comes from a novel by Ray Bradbury but it also means Monday in German. Montag is where electronics, melodies, a few words, the love of pop music and lullabies like to meet.

“What was your thoughts and the scenario when you did the remix?”

As soon as I heard the vocals acapella I knew I wanted something more intimate right at the beginning of the remix. I also loved the choir tracks with the boys and girls singing along, so I thought that I could put that towards the end and create a really uplifting finale. It’s how I first thought about the structure of the remix… The rest was totally spontaneous.

“Why did you choose to participate?”

Well, remixing is one of the things I love doing a lot in music. I always find it inspiring working with some sounds that are not mine. Maybe it’s because I’m a one man band and that it always feels fresh to play around instruments that I don’t play (like drums, guitar, etc). I’ve done remixes before for bands like Stars, Au Revoir Simone, M83, etc. So when I heard about the competition I thought: a Montag remix of I’m from Barcelona – oh yes!

“What are your sources of inspiraton when creating music?”

There are a million things that inspire me when I create music but I would say that these days, it’s mostly my new home. I just moved back to Montréal after living in Vancouver for three years and it’s a huge comeback for me, it’s coming back to my culture, my people, my family and friends so I think it explains the euphoria I’ve been putting in my music lately – mostly remixes. The upcoming album might be really uplifting because of that but also more wintery because Montréal also rimes with a long and cold winter. I’m ready for it too. In fact, I can’t wait.
